"Room Thirteen not only make music fit for a vacation, they explicitly write about it. On their sophomore album they take another step forward in songwriting, but look backwards in feel: from a relaxing cocktails-by-the-pool escape from work to a teenage summer beach escape full of crushes, cannonballs, secret hookups and smoking weed in secluded spots. The wobbly organ from the very first note promises playfulness, “Sunscreen” glows until it bursts, and they have a full-on explosive surf instrumental in “Koo Koo Rumba”, but tracks like “Hurricane” and “Blue Night” add a sense of unease that leads to a wider emotional range than they’ve previously shown. Their instrumental palette has increased as well; picking apart the dense layers of influences present in each Room Thirteen song was already difficult, but bursts of reverbed-out dream pop are a welcome inclusion to the kitchen sink full of fuzzy psychedelia, exotica, surf, tropicalia and the like.

Like any amazing vacation, it’s over too quick but leaves you with a head full of new feelings. With Daytona Beach, Room Thirteen have found that their unique sound has plenty more space to get lost in."
